Very fortunate to have one of the best kiters in Australia right on my door-step. Her name is Jacqui Hockaday and she's a champ. The middle of a South Oz winter and she's out on the water in a bikini without a whine or a whimper getting the job done for one of her sponsors Hive Swimwear. A few weeks later with about an hour of light left in the day we hook up for a portrait shoot. Being so easy to work with and matched with a stunning natural look makes for an effortless shoot with results that blew me away. Remember the name...

last light...
Sometimes the shortest and most random sessions can be your most rewarding, specifically for a surf photographer. Late in the day but with a clear sky and probably only 20 minutes of sunlight remaining I scrambled down the beach and took up a spot in-front of Pete Tomlinson and Morgan Beaty. Only a narrow band of fading afternoon sun was lighting up a small section of the break, but it was enough to come away satisfied...

modern tones...
As a sucker for the old style black & white images from years ago it's great that they really have never gone out of fashion. They will always be "in" in my books. Here's three recent examples of modern moves mixed with old style tones... Check more at www.salteyre.com

back and black...
Spent a bit of time rehashing the design of the old and tired blog. Gone with something that looks a little more cleaner and uncluttered and hopefully is easier on the eye. With the new website www.salteyre.com going gangbusters hopefully the blog will bring people up to speed with what's been happening lately. And keeping with black theme what better than a moody slab to kick things off for 2011...

insignificance...
Getting out, getting away. Sometimes you really don't need to go too far to get that feeling of space. It's something we all need but yet find it in different ways and it's so much easier to achieve than for those stuck in the concrete jungle. And when you get to where you want to go and take a look around, there's nothing for miles and not a soul around. Just you, the beach, the waves and everything else in that moment is insignificant...

Cold chilli...
Autumn blends into winter in a real odd way around here. One week you're assured and reassured that, yep, winter has set in under a blanket of dark skies and persistent rain squalls. The following week it's all day off-shores and perfect blue skies. But to get to your destination you have to battle the dense inland fog and dodge a couple of dozen skippy's before then trying to make sense of a heavy mist laden lineup. It's comforting to know that on these mornings while the air temp is nudging zippo on the mercury, the water will feel like a warm bath...

Two birds, one stone...
This photo session with Pete Tomlinson is one of my favourites. There was only one other guy out with Pete this day and he happened to be a tourist. Atleast there was someone out there to even out the 50/50 odds. The colour, composition and feel of the following few images appealed to me firstly. I new I had some pixel gold from the first view through the camera's rear LCD screen. I didn't have to crop them or straighten a thing. Well, the middle image was used by SURFING magazine in the US for a double page spread and most recently by Australia's Surfing Life magazine for the same thing. Hence the two birds, one stone...
